The KNA RP-1 is a lightweight, bridge-mounted piezo pickup built specifically for the ruan, designed to carry the instrument’s warm, articulate voice into an amp, audio interface or PA with clarity and balance.

Equally at home on stage or in the studio, RP-1 delivers instrument-optimized amplification with no permanent modification required. There’s no drilling, no onboard preamp, and no battery — simply connect and play.

RP-1 employs a bridge-mounted design, ensuring stable, precise vibration transfer at the instrument’s primary contact point.

Features

Installs with no modification

RP-1 mounts directly to the ruan’s bridge using a non-invasive, adjustable clamp. No drilling, cutting, or permanent alteration is required. Installation is fast, fully reversible, and preserves the instrument’s original structure.

Natural wood casing

The bridge clamp is encased in genuine mahogany, while the piezo element is housed in laminated birch with an elegant maple cap. This lightweight construction supports sensitivity and resonance while maintaining an instrument-appropriate appearance.

Natural sound

RP-1 features a fully passive piezo design that reproduces the natural character of the ruan without coloration or compression. No battery is required — simply connect and perform.

Protection for your instrument

All points of contact between the clamp and the bridge are lined with protective cork, ensuring a secure hold while safeguarding the bridge surface from marks or damage.

Ready to connect

A 9-ft 1/8″ to 1/4″ cable is included, allowing quick and direct connection to an amp, audio interface, or PA.

Instructions

Follow our installation guide through the following steps:

Gently lift the strings and carefully slide the saddle toward the neck, then remove it out sideways.

Attach the pickup to the mounting plate using the included screws. Just a few turns of the screws are good, it's only for placement. Now mount it onto the saddle.

Tighten the screws just enough to secure the pickup to the saddle, then return the saddle to its original position.

Gradually tighten the screws while testing the sound. The pickup should be secure, but not so tight that bridge vibration is restricted. Over-tightening will not improve tone. You are ready to enjoy a performance with your new pickup.
