PP-2 PICKUP

Portable Bridge-Mounted Piezo with Volume Control for Pipa

The KNA PP-2 is a compact, bridge-mounted piezo pickup developed specifically for the pipa, capturing the instrument’s fast articulation, focused projection and complex overtones for reliable connection in live and recording environments.

Designed for players who need flexibility, PP-2 converts the pipa sound to signal without altering the instrument. Installation is quick and fully reversible, allowing the pickup to be mounted or removed in minutes.

Mounted directly on the bridge, the PP-2 ensures consistent sound capture across dynamic playing styles. The built-in volume control allows immediate level adjustments during performance, helping manage dynamic playing techniques and transitions common in pipa repertoire.

Also available without volume control (KNA PP-1)

Features

No-modification installation

The PP-2 mounts securely on the pipa bridge using string tension alone, with no drilling, adhesives or permanent alteration to the instrument.

Onboard volume control

A pickup-mounted volume control allows players to adjust output level instantly on stage or in the studio, without reaching for external gear — ideal for managing dynamics and ensemble balance during performance.

Natural wood casing

The piezo element is encased in genuine mahogany, while the output jack is housed in solid birch with an elegant maple cap. This lightweight, tonewood-based construction supports sensitivity and resonance while maintaining a refined appearance.

Natural sound

PP-2 features a fully passive piezo system that reproduces the natural character of the pipa without added color or compression. No battery is required — simply plug in and play.

Complete Set

PP-2 includes everything needed for a smooth connection: a 9-ft 1/8″ to 1/4″ cable and a 3-ft 1/8″ to female 1/4″ jumper cable with safety clip, designed to help manage cable strain, protect the pickup, and keep your setup secure during performance.

Instructions

Follow our installation guide through the following steps:

Carefully loosen the strings of your pipa, just enough to create space under the tie block loops.

Slide the pickup under the string loops. Keep it positioned evenly on the tie block while tightening the strings and retune.

Hold the pickup head securely when attaching and detaching the 1/8" to 1/4" cable. You are ready to enjoy a performance with your new pickup.
